Rocket League controls & keybinds

Rocket League's defaults are simple: accelerate on the trigger, jump on the face button, boost and powerslide on the shoulders. Almost every competitive player rebinds air roll and boost, so the defaults are a starting point, not the meta.

Can your board actually play Rocket League?

Every default bind, re-scored against the keyboard you own. Distance is measured from the left hand resting on WASD, because that is where it stays while you play.

Stretch

Off movement

Reach uses the same key geometry as BindIQ, which can rebuild the whole layout for you once you know what is out of reach. Mouse buttons always count as reachable — your right hand is already there.

Rocket League control lab

The same button means something else once your wheels leave the ground

Rocket League has two control schemes and switches between them by whether you are touching the floor. Nothing tells you, and the defaults make it worse: one button covers both jobs, one important control ships unbound, and on keyboard two things share a key outright.

KeyWheels on the groundIn the airWhat to do about it
Square / XPowerslide, for turning without losing speedFree air roll — the car spins on every axis at onceThis is why a habit of holding powerslide makes you tumble after a jump. Same button, two unrelated jobs
Q and ENothingAir roll left and air roll right, one axis at a timeBound on keyboard, unbound on controller by default. Put them on the bumpers — this is the bind that changes how you fly
Cross / AJumpSecond jump, or a flip in whatever direction the stick is heldNeutral stick gives a straight second jump; that difference is the whole flip system
Circle / BBoostBoostOn keyboard both boost and powerslide default to Left Shift — a genuine conflict in the shipped layout. Rebind one before anything else
Triangle / YBall cam on and offBall cam on and offLeave it on and toggle off only to dribble; it is a camera, not a control

Two things in this table are worth acting on today. On keyboard, boost and powerslide ship on the same key, so one of them has to move — that is a defect in the default layout, not a preference. On controller, directional air roll is not bound at all, and it is the control that separates players the moment they start playing in the air: put air roll left on L1 or LB and leave the free air roll where it is. Everything else in Rocket League is practice.

Quick answers

What are the best Rocket League controller binds?

Most players keep jump on Cross/A and boost on Circle/B, then move Air Roll Left to L1/LB and Powerslide to L1/LB or R1/RB so the thumb stays on the stick. Directional air roll is the single most useful rebind.

Why can't I air roll on keyboard?

The default keyboard layout puts powerslide and air roll on Left Shift together with boost. Bind Air Roll Left and Right to Q and E (or mouse side buttons) and move Boost to a different key.

How do I toggle ball cam?

Triangle/Y on controller, Space on keyboard by default. Ball cam should be on almost always; toggle it off only for dribbles and kick-offs.

Is keyboard and mouse competitive in Rocket League?

Yes, several pros use it. Steering with A and D is binary, so air control depends on precise taps; most KBM players bind air roll to mouse buttons.

How do I change camera settings?

Settings › Camera: turn Camera Shake off, FOV 110, Distance 270–280, Height 100–110, Angle −3 to −5, Stiffness 0.35–0.5 are common competitive values.
