What does it cost to get into your base?

Nobody raids your base. They raid the cheapest path through it — and that path is decided by your weakest layer, not your strongest. Describe what stands between the outside and your loot room, and this works out the bill an attacker actually pays.

Your base, priced from the outside in

Each layer is a ring an attacker has to get through. Add every barrier that stands at that ring — the door and the wall it hangs in — because they only have to break one of them, and they will break the cheap one.

And the bill that arrives whether anyone raids you or not

The breach cost is a minimum — an attacker breaks one barrier per layer. Upkeep is the opposite: you pay for everything you built, every day. That asymmetry is why an extra wall is never free, and it is the number that decides whether a base survives a week away.

Why it is a range and not a number Community-reported Rust scales upkeep with how much you have built, so every structure publishes a low and a high — across all of them that band is about a tenth to a third of the build cost per day. A single figure would be inventing precision the game does not have. Materials are kept apart because stone and high quality metal cannot be added together.
02 / The wasted upgrade

A door only matters until the wall beside it is cheaper

An Armored Door costs 6,250 sulfur to breach. The Stone Wall it hangs in costs 4,400. Nobody touches that door. Every metal fragment you spent on it bought nothing until the wall goes up a tier.

This is the whole argument for pricing a base as a path rather than a shopping list. A raid calculator will happily add your armored door to the bill. An attacker will not.

And the soft side folklore Guides repeat that the soft side of a wall is far cheaper to breach. For explosives that is mostly untrue: on a stone wall, C4, rockets and satchels cost exactly the same from either face, and explosive ammo differs by about six per cent. The soft side matters for melee — a pickaxe — which is a different tool and a much longer, much louder job.

What this model assumes

  • Quantities are taken as published, not recomputed. Rust rounds a partial hit up, and reconstructing that from per-hit damage would introduce an error the source does not have.
  • One barrier per layer. The path cost assumes an attacker breaks the cheapest thing at each ring and walks through. A raid that goes through a floor or a roof instead is a different path this tool does not model.
  • No soft-side discount for explosives. Verified against the source: on a stone wall, C4, rockets and satchels cost the same from either face. Explosive ammo differs by about six per cent. Melee is a different tool entirely.
  • Sulfur only. Explosives also cost charcoal, metal and cloth. Sulfur is the binding constraint for almost everyone, which is why it is the unit here — but it is not the whole bill.
  • No raid tools beyond explosives. Pickaxes, ladders, building into a base and door camping are all real and none of them are priced here.

Where these numbers come from Community-reported Read from the RustLabs durability tables on 12 September 2026. Facepunch publishes no official raid cost table, so nothing on this page is an official figure and it is not presented as one. Cross-checking this table against three aggregator sites found three of them wrong — one had the Armored Door at 800 HP and four C4 when it is 1,000 HP and three. Sulfur prices per explosive: Explosive 5.56 25, Beancan Grenade 120, Satchel Charge 480, HV Rocket 200, Rocket 1400, C4 2200. Raid costs move with patches; if this date looks old, treat the table as stale.

New players spend their first night upgrading the wrong thing. The table above says which thing, but here it is as a plan rather than a lookup.

Get off wood before you sleep

A wooden wall breaks for 1,225 sulfur and a wooden door for 475 — less than one rocket. Stone takes the wall to 4,400, which is three and a half times the price for one tier. No other upgrade in the game moves the number that far.

Match the door to the wall, then stop

A sheet metal door in a stone wall is right: 1,575 against 4,400, so the door is the way in and upgrading it further is the next real gain. An armoured door in a stone wall is wrong — it costs 6,250 that nobody will ever pay.

Check what a day costs before you build wider

Every wall you add is paid for daily, whether or not anyone comes. The upkeep panel above turns that into a number. A base you cannot feed decays on its own, which is the most common way a first base is actually lost.

The thing not to worry about yet: armoured anything. It is high quality metal, it is a late-wipe material, and a stone base with the right door already costs more to break than most raiders will spend on a first-week target.

Been away a while?

This page will not summarise patch notes it has not verified. What is certain is what the monthly force wipe does, and that is usually the answer you came for:

  • The map is gone. Every force wipe generates a new one, so your base location, your monument routes and your neighbours are all reset.
  • Your blueprints are gone. A force wipe is also a BP wipe on official servers — you start the tech tree again.
  • Your raid maths is not gone. Structure health and explosive damage change rarely, and when they do this table is re-read and the date at the top moves. If that date looks old, treat the numbers as stale rather than trusting them.

Community servers set their own schedule and some skip the blueprint wipe. Check yours before you plan around either.

Paste a bind and find out what it will actually do

Rust has no keybind menu. You type bind <key> <action> into the F1 console, and that line is a small program — it has a grammar, a held-versus-latched distinction carried by a +, chord syntax and command chaining. People copy these off Steam guides and find out on wipe day whether they work.

What it checks, and what it cannot It reads the grammar, the key names, the held-versus-latched prefix and the conflict with the shipped layout, and it names the two traps guides leave out: a command without + latches on until something cancels it, and a chord does not suppress the plain key — both fire. It cannot tell you whether Rust accepts a given console variable; the game exposes hundreds and an unrecognised one is reported as unrecognised, never as an error.

Straight answers

How much sulfur does it take to raid a base in Rust?+

It depends entirely on the cheapest barrier at each layer, not on the total of everything you built. As a reference point: a sheet metal door is 1,575 sulfur with explosive 5.56, a stone wall is 4,400 with two C4, a sheet metal wall is 8,800 with four C4 and an armoured wall is 17,600 with eight. The desk on this page takes your layers and picks the cheap route through them, which is what a raider does.

Is an armoured door worth it?+

Only if the wall it hangs in is armoured too. An armoured door costs 6,250 sulfur to breach, and a stone wall costs 4,400 — so an attacker facing an armoured door in a stone frame simply takes the wall, and every metal fragment spent on that door bought nothing. Match the door tier to the block tier, or spend the resources on the block instead.

Is the soft side of a wall really cheaper to raid?+

Not for explosives, which is the opposite of what most guides say. On a stone wall, C4, rockets and satchel charges cost exactly the same from either face, and explosive 5.56 differs by about six per cent. The soft side matters for melee: a pickaxe does far more damage to the weak face. That is a slow, loud job rather than a raid, so it changes how you plan against offline pickaxing, not how you price explosives.

What is the cheapest explosive in Rust?+

By raw sulfur it is usually explosive 5.56 ammo, and that surprises people who assume C4. A wooden wall is 1,225 sulfur with ammo against 2,200 with C4; a sheet metal door is 1,575 against 2,200. C4 only becomes the cheapest option from stone upward. Cheapest is not the same as fastest, though — C4 breaches in seconds where ammo takes a magazine and a lot of noise.

Are these raid numbers official?+

No, and no site’s are. Facepunch does not publish a raid cost table, so every calculator on the internet including this one is working from community-maintained durability data — in this case the RustLabs tables, read on 12 September 2026 and dated on the page. When this table was cross-checked against three other calculators, three of them disagreed with it: one listed the armoured door at 800 HP and four C4 when it is 1,000 HP and three.
