Valor Mortis controls & keybinds

Valor Mortis on PC moves with W, A, S and D, jumps with Space, sprints with Left Shift and crouches with C. Left click attacks — hold it for a heavy attack — right click aims and casts, and Left Ctrl blocks; a block timed to the hit is a parry. Left Alt while moving dodges in that direction. F heals, 1, 2 and 3 use the three item slots, Q opens the weapon wheel, R reloads and the mouse wheel button locks on. On a PlayStation or Xbox pad the default scheme dodges with R1 or RB, blocks and parries with L1 or LB, attacks with R2 or RT, aims with L2 or LT, jumps with Cross or A, and crouches and interacts with Circle or B; Square or X reloads, holding Triangle or Y opens the weapon wheel, and the D-pad heals and uses items. Every keyboard and mouse binding can be rebound; pads choose a preset scheme.

Recommended starting settings

What the settings let you change, from the game's Mouse & Keyboard and Controller screens and Lyrical Games' gameplay FAQ. The tables above are the launch defaults, read from the game's own button prompts.

Keyboard and mouse remapping Mobility Every binding

Settings › Mouse & Keyboard. Lyrical Games says Valor Mortis is fully rebindable on mouse and keyboard, and two actions already ship with a second key. PC

Control schemes Preset schemes

Settings › Controller. A pad picks a whole scheme instead of moving single buttons. The launch default dodges on R1 or RB; Classic, the demo's default, dodges on Circle or B, heals on Square or X and interacts on Triangle or Y. Controller

Controller platform Xbox or PlayStation

Settings › Controller: which pad's buttons the prompts show. Steam lists full controller support, DualShock and DualSense included. Controller

Sensitivity Look and aim apart

Mouse sensitivity and mouse aiming sensitivity are two sliders; the Controller screen has the same pair for the sticks.

Stick deadzones Left and right

Settings › Controller sets each stick's deadzone on its own, next to inverting the vertical and horizontal axes. Controller

Difficulty One setting

There is no difficulty selection at launch; Lyrical Games says options may be added later.

Can your board actually play Valor Mortis?

Every default bind, re-scored against the keyboard you own. Distance is measured from the left hand resting on WASD, because that is where it stays while you play.

Valor Mortis fits every keyboard size measured. All 18 default binds stay within reach of a hand resting on WASD, on a 60% board and on everything larger. How that compares with every other game.

Quick answers

How do you parry in Valor Mortis?

Block just as the enemy's strike lands: Left Ctrl on PC, L1 on PlayStation, LB on Xbox. A timed block is a parry, and parries drain the enemy's posture; once it breaks, the enemy is open for a finisher.

How do you dodge in Valor Mortis?

Press Left Alt while moving and you dodge in that direction; a side mouse button does the same. On a controller the default scheme dodges with R1 on PlayStation or RB on Xbox, again while moving; the Classic scheme puts it on Circle or B.

How do you heal in Valor Mortis?

F on PC. On a controller it is D-pad down in the default scheme, with the three item slots on D-pad left, up and right; the flask shows its charges in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

How do you reload and switch weapons in Valor Mortis?

R reloads on PC and Q opens the weapon wheel. On a controller Square or X reloads, holding Triangle or Y opens the weapon wheel, and a quick tap of it swaps back to the weapon you held before.

How do you lock on in Valor Mortis?

Press the mouse wheel (Mouse 3) on PC, or click the right stick on a controller, to lock on and off. On a pad, flick the right stick left or right to switch targets.

Can you rebind the controls in Valor Mortis?

On mouse and keyboard, yes: every binding can be changed. On a controller you pick one of several preset control schemes instead of moving single buttons.

Should you play Valor Mortis on controller or keyboard?

Both are fully supported. Steam lists full controller support, DualShock and DualSense included, and the keyboard layout can be rebound key by key. The mouse makes aiming the revolver and the aimed powers easier; a pad keeps block, dodge and heal under your fingers without leaving the sticks.

Does Valor Mortis have difficulty settings?

Not at launch. Lyrical Games says the game is built around one challenge, though options may be added over time.
