What to eat, where to rest, who comes next

Valheim is three food slots, one hall and 8 bosses on a single road. This tries every plate you can cook, adds your hall up into Rested minutes, walks the bosses in order, and prices a death, a raid setting and — since 1.0 — a console command.

Steam
By the Plains · Balanced 185 health · 206 stamina The best of 13,244 three-dish plates you can cook by the Plains: Serpent stew, Blood pudding, Plains pie picnic. The highest health any three dishes reach is 325.

Three dishes at once. Which three?

You start with 25 health and 50 stamina, and three different dishes add to it. Pick the furthest biome you can cook for and what the trip needs: every plate you could make is tried, and the best three are laid out with how long each dish lasts.

Serpent stew and Blood pudding run out first, after 30 minutes: eat them again when their icons start to flash, and the third keeps going.

What this assumes. The community wiki’s food table, read 26 September 2026: health, stamina and eitr at the moment you eat, before digestion shrinks them. “Best” is the weighted sum of the three stats; ties go to the plate whose first dish lasts longest. Every dish, drawn →

Only the best piece of each kind. Here is your hall.

Rested lasts seven minutes plus one per comfort level, and each category counts once: a second chair adds nothing. Set the best piece you have in each; the ring fills and the minutes follow.

Rested lasts 12 min

17 more comfort is there without seasonal pieces, up to 29 minutes. Next point: Deer rug adds 1.

  • Rested begins after 20 seconds of Resting and gives +50% health regeneration, +100% stamina and eitr regeneration, and +50% skill experience — the last one whatever your comfort.
  • It ends when you log out. A campfire in a dungeon’s entrance hall buys a 10-minute Rested for 5 stone and 2 wood.

What this assumes. The wiki’s Comfort and Rested pages, which agree: 7 minutes plus the comfort level. The categories here add up to the 22 the Comfort page gives as the normal ceiling — 23 with a Maypole, 24 with a Yule tree — which is how the table checks itself.

Eight stops, one road. Each drop opens the next.

What the sliders mean. What a death costs.

The world modifiers menu names its settings and never says what they do. Pick a death penalty and a skill level to see your gear’s fate and the skill after one death; the other settings are spelled out underneath.

The checkboxes, and what they cost you

  • No build costBuild pieces need no materials. You still have to discover each recipe.
  • Passive enemiesEnemies do not attack until you provoke them.
  • Player based raidsRaids follow each player’s own boss kills rather than the server’s, which is kinder to a group at different stages.
  • No mapNo map and no minimap at all.
  • Fire hazardsWood can catch fire and spread anywhere in the world, not only in the Ashlands.
  • Hammer modeA preset: anything built with the hammer is free, while crafting at a station still costs. A log or rock pile taken apart in it vanishes instead of giving back its 50 items.Counts as a temporary cheat, and blocks certain achievements while it is on.

Achievements: Iron Gate says some world modifiers block certain achievements, and names Hammer mode; it does not list the others. They also only count from 1.0 on — a boss you killed before the update has to die again.

The community wiki’s World Modifiers, Skills and Death pages, read 26 September 2026, including its own worked example (Run 70 on Easy becomes 68.25) and the ten-minute No skill drain after a death; Iron Gate’s 1.0 FAQ for achievements. The resource-rate slider rounds drops up, so 1.5× behaves like 2× on most drops; fish, trophies and boss drops ignore it.

F5 still works. Since 1.0 it has a price.

Most cheat commands now mark the character and the world as cheated, permanently, after a confirmation. Pick a command to see it built — and whether it carries the mark.

spawn Wood 50

This command marks the character and the world as cheated: no achievements from them again.

Type devcommands first.
  • On Steam: Properties › Launch Options, add -console. In game, F5 opens the console.
  • Cheat commands work in single player and self-hosted worlds, not on a dedicated server.
  • Spawned items carry the cheat mark. A clean character who picks one up is locked out of achievements until they throw it away; hammer mode is a temporary cheat too.

Sources. Iron Gate’s Valheim 1.0 FAQ for the achievement rules; the community wiki’s developer-console and item-ID pages for the commands. IDs are the game’s own spelling — Flametal is Flametalnew — because the console does not correct you, it simply spawns nothing.

The rudder is a stepper. W raises, S lowers.

Five steps: reverse, stop, forward, half sail, full sail. Only the two sail steps care about the wind. Pick a boat and step through them — the sail rises with each press, and the speed is the boat’s own.

Source. The community wiki’s Boats and Controls pages, read 26 September 2026. Crosswind and tailwind sail about equally well (the best angle is only about 3% faster); straight into the wind the sail only crawls, so you paddle or tack. The Drakkar is the toughest boat and still slower under sail than the Longship. Alone on board, letting go of the rudder and jumping off stops the boat dead.

Answers

Straight answers

Three different dishes, never the same one twice. Comfort counts the best piece of each kind. 7 bosses are documented; the Deep North’s is not yet. The rest below.

What is the best food combination in Valheim?

It depends on the biome you can cook for and what the trip needs, because you eat three different dishes at once and the same dish twice does not stack. Before the Deep North the highest-health plate is piquant pie, mashed meat and fiery svinstew: 300 health and 101 stamina on top of your base 25 and 50. The plate module tries every combination you can cook and ranks them for health, stamina or eitr.

How long does food last in Valheim?

Each dish has its own duration — berries and mushrooms 10 to 15 minutes, cooked meat 20, cauldron dishes 25 to 30. The buff shrinks as the dish is digested, and you can eat the same dish again once its icon starts flashing. The plate module shows which of your three runs out first.

How does comfort work in Valheim?

Rested lasts 7 minutes plus one minute per comfort level, so comfort 1 is 8 minutes. Every comfort piece belongs to a category — fire, rug, table, chair, bed, banner and so on — and only the best piece in each category counts. The normal ceiling is 22 (29 minutes of Rested); a Maypole and a Yule tree take it to 24.

What is the Valheim boss order?

Eikthyr (Meadows), The Elder (Black Forest), Bonemass (Swamp), Moder (Mountain), Yagluth (Plains), The Queen (Mistlands), Fader (Ashlands), and with 1.0 a Deep North boss. The order matters because each drop opens the next biome: Eikthyr’s antlers make the pickaxe for copper and tin, the Elder’s key opens the Sunken Crypts, Bonemass’s wishbone finds silver, Moder’s tears build the artisan table, Yagluth’s torn spirit lights the Mistlands.

How long do Forsaken powers last?

Five minutes, with a shared 20-minute cooldown that does not reset when you log off, sleep or swap powers. Everyone within 10 metres gets the power too, so a group can chain them.

How much skill do you lose when you die in Valheim?

It depends on the death penalty world modifier: 1% on Casual and Very easy, 2.5% on Easy, 5% on Normal, 7.5% on Hard and everything on Hardcore. The loss is a share of the level: at 70 on Easy you drop to 68.25, shown as 68, and progress to the next level is reset. A second death inside ten minutes costs nothing: the first one gives you No skill drain for that long.

Do cheats disable achievements in Valheim 1.0?

Yes, mostly. Iron Gate’s 1.0 FAQ says most cheat commands, such as spawn, permanently mark the character and the world as cheated, after a confirmation. Freefly is one of the exceptions. Spawned items are marked too, and a clean character who picks one up is locked out until they throw it away. Hammer mode counts as a temporary cheat.

How do you enable the console in Valheim?

On Steam, add -console to the game’s launch options, then press F5 in game. Type devcommands before any cheat command. Cheat commands work in single player and self-hosted games, not on a dedicated server.

Do world modifiers disable achievements in Valheim?

Some do. Iron Gate’s 1.0 FAQ says some world modifiers block certain achievements and names one: Hammer mode, the preset where anything built with the hammer is free, which counts as a temporary cheat. It does not list the others. Achievements also only count from 1.0 on, so a boss you killed before the update has to be killed again.

Can you teleport ore in Valheim?

Not on the Normal portal setting: ore and metal are among the items portals refuse. The Portal items world modifier allows everything except tamed animals; it also changes how the game is meant to be played, because ore then no longer has to travel by boat or cart.

Which Valheim boat is the fastest?

The Longship: up to 9.75 m/s under full sail with a good wind. The Drakkar, newer and far tougher (3,000 health, 32 slots, 16 extra seats), tops out at 8.9 m/s. A Karve reaches 7.0 and a raft 3.1.
