Valheim controls & keybinds

Valheim keeps you on WASD with run on Left Shift, jump on Space, sneak on Left Ctrl and auto-walk on Q. Mouse 1 attacks, Mouse 2 blocks, Mouse 3 is the secondary attack, and the dodge roll has no key of its own: it is block and jump together with a direction. E interacts and takes the rudder, F fires your Forsaken power, R hides your weapons, and F5 opens the console once the game is launched with it.

Settings that change how the bindings feel

Recommended starting settings

Valheim lets you rebind the keyboard and adjust only some controller options, and its graphics menu changed twice in 2026: in February the Render scale slider became a 3D resolution limit with fixed resolutions, next to a new upscaling method and a cheaper SSAO setting, and 1.0 added draw-distance settings. The rows below are the ones Iron Gate's own notes describe, with what they are for.

Can your board actually play Valheim?

Every default bind, re-scored against the keyboard you own. Distance is measured from the left hand resting on WASD, because that is where it stays while you play.

On a 60% board Valheim loses 3 keys. F3, F12 and F5 are not on that board at all — so hide the hud, screenshot and console have nowhere to live until you rebind them. Do that before the first match rather than during it. How that compares with every other game.

Reach uses the same key geometry as BindIQ, which can rebuild the whole layout for you once you know what is out of reach. Mouse buttons always count as reachable — your right hand is already there.
