Star Wars: Galactic Racer controls & keybinds

Star Wars: Galactic Racer accelerates on RT or R2 and boosts on A or Cross; clicking the right stick switches the boost from the Afterburner to the Ramjet. X or Square is the Advanced Maneuver — your craft's cornering move — and LB or L1 fires an ability. On a keyboard it is W, S, A and D, Shift to boost and Space for the maneuver. No input can be rebound, on a keyboard or a controller.

Recommended starting settings

Galactic Racer has almost nothing to set in its controls: no key and no button can be moved. What there is sits in the Gameplay menu, and the remapping a pad player can do happens outside the game, in Steam Input.

Keyboard bindings Fixed

No key can be changed, and Steam Input does not remap a keyboard. Check your keyboard can hold the four keys a boosted corner needs at once. PC

Controller layout Default

There is an alternate controller scheme, but neither can be edited. To move a button, turn on Steam Input for the game in Steam and remap it there. Controller

Crossplay On OnOff

On by default. Turn it off to race only players on your own platform.

Tutorial pop-ups Cognitive On OnOff

They show each control the first time it matters, and can be reset to see them again.

Can your board actually play Star Wars: Galactic Racer?

Every default bind, re-scored against the keyboard you own. Distance is measured from the left hand resting on WASD, because that is where it stays while you play.

On a 60% board Star Wars: Galactic Racer loses 3 keys. End, Delete and Insert are not on that board at all, and Galactic Racer cannot rebind a key — so move camera and change camera stay on the board's Fn layer for good. How that compares with every other game.

Stretch

Galactic Racer cannot rebind a key, so read this as a buying question rather than a setup one: on a smaller board, the keys it does not have stay on its Fn layer. Mouse buttons always count as reachable — your right hand is already there.

Quick answers

What are the controls for Star Wars: Galactic Racer?

On a controller, RT or R2 accelerates, LT or L2 brakes and the left stick steers and pitches. A or Cross boosts, a click of the right stick switches the boost to the Ramjet, X or Square is the Advanced Maneuver and LB or L1 fires the ability you picked on the D-pad. On a keyboard: W, S, A and D, Left Shift to boost, Left Ctrl or C to switch boost mode and Space for the maneuver.

Can you rebind controls in Star Wars: Galactic Racer?

No — not on a keyboard and not on a controller. The game offers a second controller scheme but neither can be edited. A controller can be remapped through Steam Input (Library → Properties → Controller → Enable Steam Input); a keyboard cannot.

How do you use the Ramjet?

Wait for the Ramjet meter to fill, click the right stick (Left Ctrl or C on a keyboard) to switch the boost to the Ramjet, then hold the boost button. It is far faster than the Afterburner but builds heat; when the indicator turns red you are redlining, and staying there destroys the craft. Let go early and it needs a full recharge.

What is the difference between the Afterburner and the Ramjet?

The Afterburner is a short boost you hold that drains and refills during the race. The Ramjet is much faster but heats the craft, cannot be re-used until its meter refills completely, and is armed with the boost-mode toggle first. Water cools the craft and lava heats it, which decides where a Ramjet is safe.

How do you drift in Star Wars: Galactic Racer?

Hold the Advanced Maneuver button — X on Xbox, Square on PlayStation, Space on a keyboard — through the corner. What it does depends on the craft: a landspeeder drifts, a skim speeder rolls onto its side in Knife Edge, and a speeder bike turns the energy from braking into the corner into a Kinetic Burst on the way out. Held too long, a drift over-rotates into the wall.

How do you get a Perfect Start?

Press RT or R2 to start the engines and let go. When the bar appears under the three countdown lights, tap the accelerator to keep it inside the marked section, and have it there when the horn sounds. Holding the trigger overshoots: no boost, but no stall either.

How do you use abilities?

Pick one with the D-pad (1 to 4 or the arrow keys on a keyboard) and fire it with LB or L1 (E or Q). Every use spends a battery charge, shown as dots at the bottom left.

How do you change the camera view?

RB or R1 cycles the camera, and the right stick moves it. On a keyboard it is Insert or Page Up to change the view, and End, Delete and Page Down to move it.

Does Star Wars: Galactic Racer support racing wheels?

No. The publisher's FAQ says the game has no wheel support, no HOTAS or HOSAS support and no full haptics or resistance. Players report a wheel can steer through Windows, but boost and force feedback do not work.
