Ace Combat 8 flight stick check: what your stick reports

The aircraft below is flown by the controller or flight stick in your hands right now. The bench names the device, reads every axis it reports, and shows the two things that decide how a flight game feels: whether the stick still rests at centre and whether it still reaches the corners.

Plug in a controller or flight stick and press any button — a browser only reveals a device after it has been touched.

Hold the stick still for a few seconds: resting offset is how far from centre it actually sits, and in a flight game that offset is a permanent gentle turn. Then sweep it to every corner — peak reach under about 93% means the gate is clipping your full deflection.

Runs entirely in this tab. Nothing is uploaded or stored, and no claim is made about how Ace Combat 8 itself handles your input. What it measures is your own hardware — the half you can fix yourself.

Flight sticks: straight answers

Will a HOTAS work?

Two sticks are licensed for this game: Thrustmaster’s T.Flight HOTAS Neo Ace Combat 8 Edition (PlayStation/PC and Xbox/PC versions) and HORI’s Ace Combat 8 Flight Stick for PlayStation and PC. Bandai Namco has not published a list of other devices, and on 30 September it said some configuration options that sticks had in Ace Combat 7 are not in Ace Combat 8 yet and that it is working on improvements.

What should I test on my flight stick first?

Resting centre, outer range and deadzone floor — about five minutes in total, none of it needing the game. The flight-stick check in the Ace Combat 8 lab does the first two while you fly the aircraft with your own stick, which matters more while some of Ace Combat 7’s stick options are missing from the game.

Which flight stick should I get for Ace Combat 8?

The two licensed for the game are the ones Bandai Namco names: Thrustmaster’s T.Flight HOTAS Neo Ace Combat 8 Edition and HORI’s Ace Combat 8 Flight Stick. For any other stick on PC no support list has been published, so plug yours into the flight-stick check in the Ace Combat 8 lab first and see whether the browser reads every axis.
