PEAK controls & keybinds

PEAK’s default controls: W, A, S and D move, Space jumps, Ctrl crouches and Shift sprints. Hold the left mouse button against a wall to climb, and press Shift while climbing to lunge upward — both cost stamina. The right mouse button is the helping hand that pulls a friend up, E interacts, Q drops or, held, throws, and the middle mouse button pings. Push to talk is V, but only after you switch the microphone mode away from voice activation.

Settings that change how the bindings feel

Recommended starting settings

Five settings change how PEAK plays rather than how it looks. Two of them are the reason a climb feels wrong, and one is the reason push to talk does nothing.

Settings › General

Field Of View 70

Range 60–100.

Climbing Extra Field Of View 40

Added on top while you climb, range 0–50. If the wall feels as if it is rushing at you, this is the number to lower.

Settings › Controls

Jump To Grab Wall On

Jumping at a wall grabs it. Turn it off if you keep latching on when you meant to hop past.

Input Icons Auto

Auto, Gamepad Style 1, Gamepad Style 2 or Keyboard & Mouse — set it by hand if the prompts show the wrong buttons.

Settings › Audio

Microphone Mode Voice Activation

Switch to Push To Talk or Push To Mute to make V do anything.

Can your board actually play PEAK?

Every default bind, re-scored against the keyboard you own. Distance is measured from the left hand resting on WASD, because that is where it stays while you play.

PEAK fits every keyboard size measured. All 21 default binds stay within reach of a hand resting on WASD, on a 60% board and on everything larger. How that compares with every other game.

Quick answers

What are the default controls in PEAK?

W, A, S and D move, the mouse looks, Space jumps, Ctrl crouches and Shift sprints. Hold the left mouse button against a wall to climb and press Shift while climbing to lunge upward. The right mouse button is the helping hand. E interacts, Q drops an item or, held, throws it, 1, 2 and 3 are the item slots and 4 is the backpack. The middle mouse button pings, R opens the emote wheel and V is push to talk once you have turned it on.

How do you climb in PEAK?

Walk up to a wall, hold the left mouse button and steer with W, A, S and D. Almost any surface can be climbed. Climbing drains stamina, and if it runs out you slide down fast, which on a high wall is a fall. Shift while climbing is a lunge, a quick burst upward that also costs stamina. You cannot climb while you are holding something, so put the item away first.

How do you use push to talk for voice chat in PEAK?

Turn it on first. PEAK’s voice chat is proximity voice and starts in Voice Activation mode, so V does nothing out of the box. Open the settings, go to Audio and set Microphone Mode to Push To Talk — or to Push To Mute if you would rather stay live and cut out on V. After that, hold V to talk.

How do you change keybinds in PEAK?

At the Airport, before you board the flight. Press Esc there and choose Rebind Controls, click the action, press the new key and save. The option is not in the main menu settings, which is why it looks as if PEAK cannot be rebound. Rebinding arrived with the Dillydally update; older guides that say the keys are fixed were written before it.

How do you help a friend up in PEAK?

With empty hands, aim at them and hold the right mouse button. The helping hand pulls them towards you and you a little towards them, which is how a friend hanging under a ledge gets over it. For a boost from below, crouch with Ctrl, let them stand on you and jump: they gain height without spending their own stamina.

How do you throw items in PEAK?

Hold Q to charge the throw and release it to let go; a short press just drops the item. Q works on whatever is in your hands, so switch to the right slot with 1, 2 or 3 first.

How do you ping in PEAK?

Press the middle mouse button. Everyone in the expedition sees a pointing hand at the spot you are looking at, which is faster than describing a ledge over voice.

How do you get out of a web or a flytrap in PEAK?

Press Space over and over. Jump is the key that breaks you free, and it takes repeated presses, not one.

Can you play PEAK with a controller?

Yes. Steam lists full controller support, including DualShock and DualSense pads, and the menus can be navigated with a controller. If the on-screen prompts show the wrong buttons, set Input Icons in the controls settings by hand instead of leaving it on Auto. The bindings on this page are the keyboard and mouse ones.
