PS5 Controller Battery Check

Reads the battery a DualSense, DualSense Edge or DualShock 4 reports, on a computer, with nothing to install.

Controller battery Not connected — the card below is a demo draining on its own. Connect a DualSense, DualSense Edge or DualShock 4 to read yours.

The browser asks you to pick the controller once and remembers it for this site. The page only reads what the controller reports — nothing is written to it, nothing leaves this computer.

HID / WebHID

The standard language input devices speak to a computer, and the browser feature that lets a page read it directly. It exposes what the device itself reports, not what a driver decided to show.

Quick answers before you test

How do I see my PS5 controller battery on PC?

Connect the DualSense by USB or Bluetooth, open this page in Chrome, Edge or Opera and press “Connect controller”. The level appears straight away, and next time the page reads it without asking.

Why doesn’t Windows show it?

Windows reads battery levels from the standard Bluetooth battery report. Sony controllers put theirs inside their own input report instead, which Windows does not read — a browser with WebHID can.

Is the percentage exact?

No Sony controller reports a percentage. It sends a level from 0 to 10, so 55% means somewhere from 50 to 59%. The page shows the middle of the band and the band itself under it.

What the result actually measures

The page opens the controller through WebHID, the browser’s access to game controllers and other HID devices, and reads the status byte in each input report: a battery level from 0 to 10 and a charge state — on battery, charging, full, or one of three charging faults. On a DualSense the next byte says whether a headset is plugged into the jack. Once per connection it also reads the firmware report the controller keeps about itself. Time left is the page’s own measurement: it times each 10% step while the tab is open and keeps the steps on this computer, so the estimate improves with each visit.

Measurement boundary: Ten steps of 10% are all the controller reveals: battery health, capacity and charge cycles are not in any report a browser can read. Time left needs a timed step, so the first estimate comes after the level has changed twice. Xbox controllers use XInput and cannot be reached over WebHID. Only one app can hold a controller at a time, so close Steam’s PlayStation support, DS4Windows or DSX first.

How to interpret the output

10% bands

Level 7 means 70 to 79%. The cell lights one segment per level — the same resolution the controller itself has.

Charging states

Charging and fully charged need a cable. “Not charging” with a temperature or voltage note means the controller stopped charging to protect the battery: let it come back to room temperature. A charging error usually points at the cable or the port.

Time left

The median of the 10% steps the page has timed, counted from the middle of the current band. Haptics, rumble, the adaptive triggers, the speaker and a headset in the jack all make each step shorter.

Firmware

The firmware and hardware numbers the controller states about itself. Sony’s PlayStation Accessories app for Windows shows the same firmware for a DualSense or Edge and offers an update when one exists.

Troubleshooting unexpected results

The controller is not in the list

Only Sony controllers appear: DualSense, DualSense Edge, DualShock 4 and Sony’s wireless adapter. Check that it is on and connected — by cable, or paired in Windows Bluetooth settings — and that the browser is Chrome, Edge or Opera on a computer.

It says the controller is held by another app

On Windows, Steam with PlayStation Configuration Support turned on, DS4Windows and DSX can take the controller for themselves. Close them, or turn the Steam option off, and connect again.

Over Bluetooth no level appears

Right after pairing, a controller sends a short report with no battery in it. The page asks it for its full report on connect; if the level does not appear within a few seconds, disconnect and connect once more.

The level stays the same for a long time

It only changes in 10% steps, and each one can take a long time. That is normal; the time-left estimate appears once the level has changed twice.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check my PS5 controller battery on PC?

Open this page in Chrome, Edge or Opera, connect the DualSense by USB or Bluetooth and press “Connect controller”. The level, the charge state and the firmware appear at once, with nothing to install. Sony’s PlayStation Accessories app for Windows also shows the level of a DualSense or DualSense Edge.

How do I check a PS4 controller battery on PC?

The same way: the page reads a DualShock 4 by USB, by Bluetooth or through Sony’s wireless adapter. Sony’s PlayStation Accessories app does not support the DualShock 4.

Why does my DualSense battery die so fast?

The DualSense runs its haptic motors, its adaptive triggers, its speaker and its light bar from the same battery, and a headset in the jack adds to that. Games that use the haptics and triggers heavily shorten every 10% step. Keep the tab open for a session and the page measures how long your controller actually lasts.

How long does a DualSense battery last?

There is no single figure: it depends heavily on the game, because haptics and adaptive triggers draw more than plain rumble. The page measures it on your own controller instead — after two 10% steps it shows the time left at your current rate.

Can this page update my controller’s firmware?

No. It only reads the firmware version the controller reports. Sony’s PlayStation Accessories app for Windows updates a DualSense or DualSense Edge, over USB or Bluetooth.

Does it work with an Xbox controller?

No. Xbox controllers use XInput, which browsers do not open to web pages, so a page cannot read their battery.

Is it safe to let the page open my controller?

Yes. The browser asks once and exposes only the controller you pick. The page reads its reports and never changes its settings, and nothing leaves your computer.
