GTA 6 file size: straight answers
How big is GTA 6?
Rockstar has not said. The PlayStation Store's own data showed about 210 GB on PS5, reported on 27 October 2026, and no Xbox figure has surfaced. The stores show the exact size when pre-load opens on 12 November.
Does GTA 6 come on a disc?
No. The boxed version holds a download code, not a disc, so it downloads exactly like the digital one. It goes on sale on 12 November so that it can pre-load, and there is no boxed Ultimate Edition.
Will GTA 6 fit on an Xbox Series S?
A new Series S shows about 364 GB free, so a game of about 210 GB fits on an empty console but takes more than half of it. No Series S size for GTA 6 has been published, so check again when the store lists it.
Can I play GTA 6 from an external drive?
Only from the console's own fast storage expansion. On PS5 an M.2 SSD in the expansion slot holds and plays PS5 games, while a USB drive can store them but not play them. On Xbox Series X|S a Storage Expansion Card plays them; a USB drive only stores them.
When does GTA 6 pre-load start?
At local midnight on 12 November 2026, a week before launch, for digital pre-orders, and for a boxed copy as soon as its download code is redeemed.
