Overwatch 2 controls & keybinds

Overwatch 2 uses two ability keys on Shift and E, the ultimate on Q and melee on V. Every hero can override these in its own control profile, so the defaults below are the global layer.

Can your board actually play Overwatch 2?

Every default bind, re-scored against the keyboard you own. Distance is measured from the left hand resting on WASD, because that is where it stays while you play.

Reach uses the same key geometry as BindIQ, which can rebuild the whole layout for you once you know what is out of reach. Mouse buttons always count as reachable — your right hand is already there.

Four keys, forty different meanings

Overwatch has the shortest keybind list on this site and the least useful one, because the keys never change but what they do changes with every hero you pick. Shift is a dash, a charge or a flight depending on who you locked in. This is why searching for Overwatch keybinds is unsatisfying — the list is six lines long and tells you almost nothing.

KeyAs GenjiAs ReinhardtAs Mercy
Left ShiftSwift Strike — a dash through everything in front of youCharge — you pin the first thing you hit into a wallGuardian Angel — you fly to whoever you are looking at
EDeflect — bullets go back where they came fromFire Strike — a projectile through shieldsResurrect — a long channel that stops you moving properly
QDragonbladeEarthshatterValkyrie
Mouse 2A burst of three shurikenBarrier Field — held up, not tappedThe damage-boost beam instead of the healing one
Left CtrlCrouchCrouchAngelic Descent — a slow fall, not a crouch
VQuick meleeQuick meleeQuick melee — the one key that means the same thing on all forty heroes

There is no Overwatch keybind layout to learn, only a hand position: Shift, E and Q must all be reachable without letting go of movement, because on some heroes you will use all three within two seconds. That is the whole optimisation. What is worth more of your time is the setting underneath it — per-hero sensitivity, which lets a sniper and a tank feel different without you touching the mouse. Set that before you rebind anything.

Quick answers

What are the default ability keys in Overwatch 2?

Left Shift for Ability 1, E for Ability 2, Q for the ultimate and V for quick melee. Heroes with a passive or a third ability show it on the F1 info screen.

How do I ping enemies?

Aim at them and tap G (D-pad Up on controller). Hold G for the wheel with location, defend, attack and other pings; ping spam is rate-limited.

How do I change my hero mid-game?

Press H (Options/Menu on controller) while inside your spawn room. Outside spawn the swap waits until you return.

Can I set different keys per hero?

Yes. Options › Controls has a hero dropdown; each hero keeps its own binds and sensitivity, which is how players give Lucio a wall-ride toggle or Mercy a beam swap key.

What is the ultimate status key?

Z asks your team for ultimate charge; hold it to see everyone's percentage in the chat log.
