Axis

One direction of stick movement, reported from -1 to 1. Each stick has two: left/right and up/down.

Deadzone

A small area around the stick centre that the game ignores, so a resting stick does not move the camera. Too small and drift leaks through; too large and slow aiming disappears.

Stick drift

The controller reporting movement while you are not touching the stick. A worn or badly calibrated stick never returns to exactly zero.

Jitter

Small random variation between readings that should be identical. A little is normal; a lot means the surface, the sensor or the connection is unstable.

What the result actually measures

PadBench samples browser-exposed axes across a resting stage and a guided circular sweep. It summarizes coverage across angular sectors, outer-range percentile, repeatable symmetry difference, recenter behavior and raw button/trigger endpoints.

Measurement boundary: Axis order, gate geometry, driver calibration and browser mapping differ. Circularity is descriptive and is not a universal quality grade; repeatable in-game control remains the final check.

How to interpret the output

Coverage

The percentage of 24 direction sectors that reached at least 75% browser-reported radius during the sweep.

Outer P95

A robust high-end radius that is less dominated by one clipped or diagonal frame than a maximum.

Symmetry error

The average difference between opposite sectors. Repeat the sweep before acting on a directional shortage.

Troubleshooting unexpected results

Sweep has empty sectors

Repeat more slowly while keeping contact with the gate; a fast sweep can skip sectors between browser frames.

Triggers appear as buttons or axes

Controller mappings differ. Use the raw button pressure readout and verify endpoints rather than trusting one label.

Frequently asked questions

What circularity score is good?

There is no universal pass value. Look for repeatable clipping or asymmetry and confirm its effect in the target game.

Can I compare two controllers?

Yes. Connect both, run the same staged procedure and switch the active device without changing the environment.

Does the analyzer calibrate the controller?

No. It reads and summarizes the mapping already exposed to the browser.
