Shows which key you actually pressed, by its position on the board rather than its printed letter.

The page records only key events delivered while this test is active. Browser- and OS-reserved shortcuts may never reach the page, and the Fn key never does: keyboards handle it in their own firmware.

Physical key code

The identity of a key by its position on the board, not the letter printed on it. It is what games bind to, which is why a key can act the same on a QWERTY and an AZERTY layout.

Rollover / NKRO

How many keys a keyboard can report at once. 6KRO handles six plus modifiers; NKRO means every key can be pressed together.

Chatter

One physical press registering as two, because the switch contact bounces as it closes. It shows up as doubled letters or an unintended double click.

What the result actually measures

The page reports keyboard events delivered to the focused browser tab. It shows physical `code`, interpreted `key`, repeat state and the largest simultaneous group observed in the current session.

Measurement boundary: Operating systems and browsers intercept some shortcuts before a webpage can read them. The tool cannot certify every possible matrix combination or distinguish a keyboard switch problem from a driver/layout issue on one test alone.

How to interpret the output

Physical code

The code represents the physical key position and is usually more useful for gaming layouts than the character produced by the active language layout.

Repeat event

Holding a key normally generates repeated keydown events. A repeated event after release is not normal and should be retested.

Simultaneous maximum

This is only the largest group observed in your chosen combinations, not a laboratory NKRO certification.

Troubleshooting unexpected results

A shortcut never appears

Try the keys separately. The browser or operating system may reserve the full combination.

Wrong character appears

Compare the physical code and the current OS keyboard layout. The key may be functioning while the layout maps it differently.

Frequently asked questions

Can the site record what I type elsewhere?

No. The tester listens only while this page is open and testing is active; key sequences are not uploaded.

Why does the browser react to F5 or Ctrl+L?

Those are browser-reserved actions and may occur before the page can prevent or observe them.

Does a missed combination prove ghosting?

It is an observation worth repeating. Confirm with the guided ghosting test and another connection or device.
